I completely forgot to do a weigh-in last week. Not too much to report for the past two weeks, other than weight loss continues to be a battle that needs to be maintained. To motivate myself, I signed up to rent a small graduation gown for my convocation on June 5th. So I have one month to slim down to ensure I fit in to it :)
Paul and I were in a charity dinner theatre last weekend. It felt good not worrying about whether we would fit in to the costumes and also feeling confident dancing animatedly in them.
I heard an interesting fact on a review CD for my nurse practitioner exam today. She said that the effects of aerobic exercise last for 48 hours after the exercise, which has an impact on insulin resistance. Therefore, we should try to engage in aerobic exercise every other day to foster even physiological benefits of exercise.
The weather is alot nicer now and alot more pleasant to get out and get some low ecological footprint exercise, so no excuses!

Yowsers! What the heck happened!?! I was stressed this week, did not exercise much, did not sleep well and didn't eat that well. Enough said...
Happy Earth Day! I hope you are able to get out and do some feel good activity for the earth. Share some of your activities here.

This week I worked really hard, exercising alot and eating well until Friday. On Friday and Saturday, I was in a review course and they served us chips, cookies and chocolate. I resisted for a bit, but eventually gave in. So the weight gain this week was warranted.
I went to my Nurse Practitioner (NP) graduation party on Saturday and was happy to fit in to a nice outfit and feel good about myself.
I still have alot of studying to do with a course and my big licensing exam in 2 months, but the end is in sight!

In the past two weeks, I was tired and stressed, so I started drinking lattees after one year of no coffee. The one day, I drank one at 6:00 p.m. and I could not sleep all night. I fell asleep after 4:00 a.m. & had to get up at 6:00 a.m. I found the coffee didn't give me that much more energy and actually made me feel worse. So I stopped drinking it again for health and environmental reasons.
I finished my course & program last week. I still am busy, studying for exams & I started an 11 week cardiology course. But the additional load of working 54 hour weeks is over.
This week I decided that I don't want to take all year to lose the rest of the weight I set out to use. I am tired of reporting my success or lack there of weekly, so I need to just do it. I tried really hard this week to eat healthy and exercise alot.
I have a graduation party this coming weekend and I had to go and pick out an outfit for this occasion. Typically I would dread trying on outfits because they usually didn't look good. I do not enjoy shopping, but I found that most of the dresses I tried on looked fine on me. This was a refreshing change from the monotony of picking up a huge dress that covered all of the lumps and bumps. I am still going to work on toning up the flabby arms and legs that are left after being freed from the fat beneath, between now and Saturday.

I saw this fridge picture & thought it was funny.
Lots of giving in to temptation with Easter this week.
Slept only a few hours last night due to stress. At least the weather is nicer when going for walks.

I definitely tried harder this week, as the public embarrassment got to me. I guess it can do one of two things: cause you to give up or cause you to try harder.
With regards to maintaining the challenges, I am doing well except for the vegan trial. I can't seem to give up cheese. I'm having no problem going without meat and milk, but cheese is tough. The processed vegan cheese doesn't taste as good and is high in sodium. I do have it once in a while on a homemade pizza. However, Paul enjoys the odd treat of a takeout pizza and gets me my own small veggie pizza once in a while.
A funny thing Paul noticed when he orders a takeout veggie burger is they ask if you would like bacon or cheese on that. How many people would get bacon on their veggie burger!?!

I was speaking with a colleague recently about Rob Ford and he commented that he has no self control. I thought about how it can be a tough thing to do, to deny oneself of the unlimited pleasure of eating food and drinking.
This week, I have really been trying hard to exercise self control through limiting portion sizes and making good food choices. For instance, today my coworker had leftover bagels from a meeting. I initially took half of a cheese bagel, but then thought about it and took half of a whole wheat bagel instead. I had extra food in my lunch bag because I had the bagel instead of a pita. I went to eat the pita, then put it back because I wasn't hungry. Saving food for another day decreases the grocery bill and uses less resources.
I have been trying hard to get as much (low ecological impact) exercise in as I can this week as well. I walked to and from the train station downtown Toronto three times. I walked up 9 flights of stairs a couple times this week. I participated in a free Zumba class at work. I walked and ran with the dog most evenings.
I am on track to success this week and I definitely feel better.

I am embarassed to say that I gained weight again this week. I am not getting enough sleep or exercise and I ate too much this week. I continue to work 54 hours per week & commute one hour each way three days per week. I study in every spare minute I have right now. Perhaps these are excuses, but this is my reality right now. I won't give up because going back to being unhealthy is not something I wish to repeat. One good thing is that I am still in the healthy range for my BMI.
